Narrative

    I was born on December 23, 1943 in Houston Texas. My name is David Lattin and my friends call me "Big Daddy D" and I loved to play basketball growing up. Little did I know later on in my life I would play an important role in the civil rights movement. In 1966 I was recruited to play basketball at The college of Texas Western. That season we had to endure so much adversity. That season we had seven colored people on are team including myself. Three of us started, and with a record of 27-1 ranked number 3 in the nation made things worse for us. Many people didn't like that seven colors were winning, and they try to put us down in so many ways. They jumped my teammate in a bathroom, they vandalize our stuff and threw drinks and food at us at an opening of game. Despite all the adversity we manage to get to the final four. We had vs kansas in semi final game and won. My coach Don Haskins wanted to put an end to this racial barrier. He had started five colors and play two colors off the bench against Kentucky in the title game. Kentucky was a school filled with white basketball players. At the end of the game we had won 72 and 65. People say this was the biggest upset and meaningful game in all of sports. This win was look at as defining moment in history. After that season I was drafted 10th overall by the San Francisco Warriors.
